Every day, we struggle to live and survive but we never forget to share our blessings. Let it be known that more and more Singaporeans support charitable events and activities. To support this claim, the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) announced that the SG Gives donation website raised S$11 million donations by the end of 2013. This amount was higher compared to the previous year. In 2012, the website only raised S$8 million.
Here are other things that you need to know about the generosity of Singaporeans:
What caused the increase?
The increase was attributed to the new advocacy campaign called “Giving Tuesday Singapore”. This campaign is the first and hopefully it will not be the last. It seeks to gather surplus or other things that Singaporeans would like to give during the festive season.
The advocacy is very effective that the public and private sector participated. The support of these sectors are overwhelming. According to SG Gives, their donors increased. In 2012, there were only 8083 donors but by the end of 2013, the donors increased to 10714. That means more Singaporeans are aware and they are willing to extend their help.
How can you help?
It is not too late to give your donations. Any amount will do. Remember that the amount that you give can be a great help. If you do not have any money, you can still help others. You can for instance offer your services to charitable institutions like retirement homes, orphanage, children’s homes, etc. You can support these people by volunteering. Money is not everything. You can also invite your friends to help you. That can make a big difference at the end of the day.
