This year’s Cathay Motion Picture Awards recognized and congratulated the Top 15 short film entries.
The top films, in no particular order, are the following: Father and Son by The Elderly Gentlemen, Ryan & Charlotte by Cool Danni Films, Reality by Lawliepop Offset, Pause for Tomorrow by P2, Lucky Strike by Lotus Production, Little Tiff by Kino, It Won’t Happen Again Tomorrow by AKFA Productions, Inconsiderate People by Nick Amir Singh, Demain by Up Close, Child by Redream Studios, Ayam Man by Ayam Man, 21st July by Adam Osman, Chasing Tomorrow by W. W. T. M., #SGZOMBIEPROBLEMS by OuhYah Films, and #PRETTIERYESTERDAY by Timecheck Productions.
Now on its 2nd year, Cathay Organization’s annual short film competition had a 120% increase in participation, evident in the total number of short film entries for this year’s edition. From 49 entries last year, the number grew to a total of 109 entries.
Since Cathay Organization is celebrating its 78th anniversary this year, all participating filmmakers in this year’s competition were required to produce their 78-seconder films in 78 hours with ‘Tomorrow’ as the theme.
The panel of judges, composed of respected and admired members of the local film industry, expressed that the competition has really recognized an emerging trend in the country’s aspiring filmmakers.
The top three winning short films, as well as the Viewers’ Choice, were also awarded. Ayam Man was awarded as the Best Motion Picture, Reality as the 1st runner-up, Pause for Tomorrow as the 2nd runner-up, and Child as the Viewers’ Choice.
